Sherri is a Certified Nutrition Specialist through the American College of Nutrition. Dr. Jacobs earned her Naturopathic Medical Degree from Bastyr University in Seattle, WA. A fully accredited, federally funded, four-year post-graduate medical college. Bastyr University, has the distinction of being the leading educational and research institution for science-based natural medicine. Prior to receiving her Doctorate Degree, She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Health Minor from the College of Charleston.


Sherri has completed clinical rotations in various outreach clinics in the Seattle area as well as having preceptored with some of the world's leading Naturopathic Physicians. Her practice is centered around clinical nutrition, offering individualized wellness plans and nutrition based labs. She has received additional training in the areas of detoxification, women's health, and the natural management of Mood Disorders. She is Vice President of the South Carolina Association of Naturopathic Physicians and a member or the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

Sherri is sought after for her extensive knowledge in the health and wellness industry. As a frequent writer and lecturer, Dr. Jacobs is passionate about health education and works closely with people to help them identify and meet their health goals. Dr. Jacobs is co- creator of the popular 360 Weight Loss program, providing in-depth nutritional consults and prepared meal services with Whole Foods MarketTM.

She teaches a monthly whole foods cooking class where she shares her thoughts about the healing power of using food as medicine. In her free time, Sherri teaches a Pilates and Yoga inspired class called Centergy at Bluefish Fitness Club.

I am a big proponent of healthy oils in the diet. After all,EVERY SINGLE cell in your body is made of a bi-lipid fatty membrane.  So if you want healthy cells, you have to eat healthy fats and avoid the unhealthy fats!Unfortunatley, there is a huge debate about which oils are healthy. Today I want to focus on one highly debated oil- Canola.   

Canola oil is a vegetable oil that has seeped into our food supply in a big way. Although it is touted as a healthy fat, I strongly disagree! *Some opponents of the oil cleverly refer to it is as CONola or CASHola (referring to the agri/ big business profits made from this oil)*While I am not a radical, I do believe this highly processed vegetable oil should be avoided. The oil, from a rapeseed, goes through a high heat, solvent extract process. This science food results in a highly damaged fat--not a healthy fat at all.. 

 

The problem is this oil is EVERYWHERE!  

*My health challenge for you- over the next week, read labels. Start to notice how many foods contain canola oil--you are going to be shocked! Report back to me!*
